The Photographer |
|
Bill Smith was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1935, and moved to Waynesville, NC in 2000, after spending over 40 years in Miami, Florida . He graduated with a degree in history from Duke University in 1957.
Involved in photography for over 50 years, Smith originally worked in both color and black and white. His increasing appreciation of the subleties of black and white imagery stimulated his specialization within that discipline of fine art photography.

Photo Education |

Even though largely self-taught, Smith attended Fred Picker's Zone VI Workshop in Putney, Vermont, Tom McCartney's large format course at Palm Beach Photo Workshop; and later studied with John Sexton at his Carmel Valley, California studio. This formal training solidified his technique, philosophy and vision.
